The Neon City, Chibion & Elementes Railway (NCC&ER) Class B2 is a class of 4-4-0 steam locomotive designed for express passenger work.
The class was created as a locomotive which could haul heavier goods trains at speeds of up to 40 mph. The class were later developed into the more older B1 class. They got the nickname "Bouncers" or "Rock ‘n’ Rollers" because of their tendency to bounce at high speeds after 1916.
Overview[]
The Neon City, Chibion & Elementia railway class B2 is a class of 2 4-4-0 tender engines built at their works at Chibion works at Akki road,
pre B2s[]
After Henry Sterling was overthrown as Chief mechanical engineer, The Neon City, Chibion & Elementia railway hired James William dean, son of William Dean of the GWR, James experimented with B1 #20, for fuel and water consumption, he went all over the world, in America, a Deckless engine means longer boiler.
Service[]
B2 #26 left the works in June 1909, and looked stunning! The B2s are put to work on express passenger trains and sometimes, local goods,
'Problems'[]
the 24’ 11” wheelbase and 6’6” driving wheels are unheard of in 1909, let alone a 4-4-0 with 6’6” drivers and 24’ 11” wheelbase and outside Walschaerts valve gear! after the Irish attacked the railway on Easter Monday, The locos have a tendency to rock and roll on bad track, 27’s Henschel valve gear was getting costly during WW2, so they replaced it with Gresley conjugated valve gear instead,
Re-numbered,[]
After the MC-1 to MC-5s, the B2 are re-numbered 106 and 107 respectively, as 50 of their old numbers are taken by the motor-cars, when Gacha Railways took over they had a 60000 added, and became 60106 and 60107,
Withdrawal[]
By the 1950s, diesel type 1s took over the local services, they worked on a industrial railway, where they received American features like cowcatchers, & headlight, 26 left in 1967 and 27 was scrapped in 1967, it was used as spares for 26.
Preservation[]
N° 26 is operational at the Chibion & Murphy railway, (In later NCC&ER Black with 106) alongside B1 60103 in GR livery
Basises[]
The locomotives aren’t based on specific designs, but they’re based on a LNER D49 4-4-0, mainly the boiler, frames and cylinders, the driving wheels are off the GWR King class 4-6-0, the running boards are based on the WD 2-8-0 or 2-10-0, the deckless arrangement is inspired by American locomotives without a cab deck and had a long boiler to the back, the reversed reverse rod is a reuse of the JGR 8800 class 4-6-0
Trivia[]
- their tendencies to Rock and roll is inspired by Duncan from Thomas & friends.
- The whistles were of 2 locomotives, one is from CPRR Jupiter, the other is a LNER A4 whistle.
- the 6’6” Drivers are off the GWR King class 4-6-0 introduced in 1927.
