The United States Army Transportation Corps (USATC) S200 Class (Gacha Railways class 700) is a class of 2-8-2 steam locomotive. They were introduced in 1941 and lent-leased to the United Kingdom for use in the Middle East during World War II. They are the most mass produced locomotives having 750 built.
Construction[]
The design is based on the USRA 2-8-2 Heavy/light mikados.
Service[]
Order N° GW219848 Arrived in may 1943, and Numbered 700 (there’s no Gacha railways locomotives that covers the 700 space) they are mass produced. Built by ALCO, Baldwin, Lima, and in 1947, at the Gacha railways Chibion works.
Retirement[]
When the Diesels came in 1955, they are surplus to requirements, all are retired.
Locos 753 and 755 were sold to Xkour in 1963, Both are modified with larger tenders, making their fuel consumption a joke, and the original tenders are given back in 1970, Both retired in 1993, 753 is on static display (now awaiting transfer for an overhaul) while 755, is operational as of 2023.
